Drag Queens Banned From Dallas Gay Bar
Written by Jonathan Higbee
Wednesday, 23 July 2008

Ivana Tramp and other dallas drag queens plan protests outside of the Crews Inn gay bar.Tuesday nights will be a lot less interesting at a gay bar in Dallas. The Advocate is reporting that Crews Inn will no longer allow entry to drag queens on the popular week night. The reason the bar co-owner,  David Moore, uses to justify his new policy of discrimination is the very reason he should be worried: drag queens are divas. “Drag queens act like they are divas and think they can do no wrong,” Moore told The Dallas Voice. “They have stolen money straight off the bar, hassled customers for drinks, and locked themselves in the bathroom with a bunch of guys. And with Tuesday being our busiest night, there is just no way for me to keep the drag queens under control then. I don’t want drag queens in here that are going to misbehave.”

Though I never knew it was possible to keep drag queens "under control", Moore will certainly have his hands full attempting to do just that after this. Famed Dallas performer Ivana Tramp (left) and other local drag queens are consulting legal advisors about the ban and how to proceed forward. Until legal action is formed, the drag queens and supporters have planned pickets and protests outside of the gay club. But Moore insists he isn't budging, and has the support of the TABC [Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission].

"How do I separate one draq queen that is being bad from others?" Moore says, continuing to smear his name in the LGBT community. "We don’t have the time on Tuesday nights with all the people in here to sit there and tell them apart from one another. If a drag queen misbehaves one week and then the next comes back in a different outfit I wouldn’t be able to recognize them. That’s why I don’t want any of them in here on Tuesdays."

Despite the co-owner's misguided efforts, Crews Inn will still find drag queens flocking to its doors every Tuesday. This time, however, they won't be happy patrons, spending money and encouring guests to have fun; Dallas's drag community will instead be holding nasty-but-deserved signs of protest as they picket the prejudiced gay bar. They are divas, after all.
